3. Gear History

Split up into the body, I might build some nicer tracking as soon as I implement queries in the new vokobe.

3.1. 60D

The first "real" camera I bought, was a Canon 60D which included three lenses:

* Canon EF75-300mm ƒ4-5.6
* Tamron 18mm-270mm ƒ3.5-6,3
* Canon AF 55-210 ƒ4-5,6

I only used one, that being the Tamron 18-270mm, a wonderful all-rounder.

3.2. 5D Mark III

At some point, I sold the 60D to Louis and bought a Canon 5D Mark III. This thing felt like a real next level. Having sold the 60D and it's lenses, I now had a body without lenses, which doesn't produce nice Images, as you can imagine. My father lent me a EF 17-40mm ƒ4L USM, worked really well.

I really found the "tele" aspect fun, as you simply can't shoot such images on a smartphone. After some digging on Kleinanzeigen, I found a pump-style EF 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6L IS USM. Now that thing weighs in at 1380g, the 5D Mark III 860g, so 2240g in Total. That's not light. Now the images were really fun, but to be honest, it's just not the setup you'd want to walk through Berlin with (I tried it!).

In addition to the 100-400mm, I found a EF 24-105mm ƒ4L IS USM which was a great addition, but at some point, I sold them both and made the switch to a digital body:

3.3. RP

I sold the EF Lenses and bought the Canon RP with a RF 24–105mm ƒ4–7.1 lens. I hate that lens. It's just not special. It does the job, but in the most boring way possible.

I then bought a TTartisan Tilt 50mm f1.4 Lens, which for 200 EUR has to be the best price/fun ratio of any lens I had used until that point. Although being manual focus, the focus peaking the RP made it bearable. But the images. Tilt just adds SO MUCH MORE fun to the process. Take a look at the Hong Kong or Toorcamp images. It being an ƒ1.4 Lens makes taking Pictures at night possible. Now the actual plan with that lens was to gift it for christmas, but it's just to much fun, so I "lent" it for about a year after gifting it. (It's really fun, get one if you didn't catch that by now).

Now having gifted away the most fun lens, I needed a lens, as the RP (as the 5D mark III) doesnt work well without a lens. Well, I spent quite some time thinking about what to get and was quite hesitant, but in the end, I went for the RF 70-200mm ƒ4. It's light weight, but just SO versatile. The two El Médano trip were shot 100% on that lens: 1 2. It's lightweight, it's sharp, it's fast, it's just really nice as the "one" lens, as I don't really like lugging around multiple lenses. Just sticking to one and making the best out of it seems ok imho.
